Hmm. Not sure if I should be sad that the best thing you had in Japan was curry or be happy that you had so many great things that could even be topped by a curry.

That looks like 新潟カツ丼タレカツ (Niigata katsudon tarekatsu).
Just an FYI: Tarekatsu is a specific dish/regional style of katsu. Calling the restaurant tarekatsu is similar to calling “Joe’s Pizza and Wings” just “Wings” rather than “Joe’s”.

It’s good to know that you liked curry in general so much, to calibrate your opinion. Curry is easily my least favorite Japanese type of dish (and I’m crazy about South Asian curries). Diversity is such an amazing thing 🙂
