I bought deluxe dungeness crab meat at a local asian supermarket. It was $20lb. Upon opening it I was shocked that it seems to be all crab roe and no actual meat. Am I tripping here, or is that what I got? Just a lb of pastey orange blobs.

All roe. I would pay good money for that. She-crab soup here we come!
Pure crab roe boss. Good stuff there
I’m intrigued.
The crab on the lid is a blue crab, not dungeness.
Dungeness crabs do not inhabit the waters of NC.
You got crab* roe. Idk where or what from
Wow lucky. A bucket of liquid gold.
Probably a plant picker was saving roe for themselves. The cup ended up getting sent down down the line somehow. Your win. Or not.
People pay big money for this
You bought what was advertised as Dungeness crab, which is a Pacific species. In a package labelled as a product of North Carolina. Which is on the Atlantic.
It’s labelled as being pasteurized. But doesn’t appear to be a sealed package, which is sort of a requirement for pasteurized products.
And for everyone saying it looks like crab roe. It doesn’t. Crab roe is straight orange and should look more like distinct clumps.
This looks like a mess of mixed, scrambled roe, fat and assorted I don’t know.
I wouldn’t eat this. You got ripped off, there was every sign that what you were buying was mislabeled. Don’t buy fish there again.
Looks like crab doritos locos nachos.
If that’s dungy, someone is harvesting illegally. In commercial fisheries in Mexico, California, Oregon, Washington, BC and Alaska only male crabs are allowed to be retained to ensure healthy breeding colonies. I’m not super familiar with the recreational regs in the states, but I believe that only California allows retention of females by “hobby” crabbers.
