this weekend my fiancé and i decided to finally make the trip to santa masa and it was nuts. the tamales had thee softest masa ever. the salsa verde was very bright and delicate, while the red salsa was more roasted and acidic. neither were that spicy, but both were packed with flavor. we also ordered the chilaquiles with salsa verde and steak, and they might be one of my new favorite chilaquiles in the city – super crispy and didn’t get soggy at all even with all the toppings and runny yolks. we enjoyed the tamales so much that we took some to go to have for breakfast the next morning and they stayed just as soft and moist after reheating them. what i also really loved is that, even though it was our first time there, the minute we walked in everyone greeted us and genuinely seemed so happy to have us. it was really heartwarming! i love supporting small businesses where it’s apparent that they care about their customers just as much as they care about putting out quality food. will most definitely be making the trek back up there as many times as possible this winter
