An Italian man who travelled to New York City to see if the Big Apple’s pizzas are just as good as it does in his homeland was left frustrated by one aspect of the experience – but not the taste. Fabio Farati took TikTok with his pal after spending a dollar on a slice of Margherita – or so he thought.
“For $1 it’s not bad,” he declared, only for his friend to inform it actually cost $1.50. “It’s $1,” Fabio insisted, only to discover the takeout’s facade sly advertised the slices with a giant ‘$1′ motif with a tiny ’50’ beside it.

Clearly shocked, Fabio checked his bill and exclaimed: “That’s a scam! You cannot put the 50 that small!”
It prompted his friend to quip in response: “Welcome to New York, man!”
“I didn’t even realise it, vabbè [alright],” said Fabio. “It’s not bad to be $1.50, but it sounds different now, huh? My parents are not going to see the 50! Vabbè, there’s crisis.”
Fabio’s clip has since gone viral, amassing 3.5 million views in two weeks. “Small print has always felt like a scam to me,” one TikTok user penned in response agreeing with him.
Others pointed out that many NYC pizza places previously sold slices for a dollar, but the rising living costs resulted in a city-wide price hike.
“There’s no more $1 pizza,” a second person said. “The price went up, but they’re not going to spend money for a new sign, so that’s the only other option.”
A third explained: “It definitely used to be a $1 slice place… but when prices went up they didn’t want to pay for a whole new sign and just popped the small 50 next to it.”
Whilst a fourth TikTok user concurred: “It looks like it was $1 for a long time but they had to raise the price due to inflation. It would have cost to much to replace the entire sign so those stick on numbers were the easiest way to fix it. They are small because that’s all that would fit.”
Today (November 27) marks the 99th anniversary of the Thanksgiving tradition, Macy’s Day Parade and a slew of musicians are slated to take over proceedings.
The parade will feature celebrated artists including Ciara, Busta Rhymes, Lil John, Teyana Taylor.
Meanwhile, Shaggy is set to make an appearance on Jennie-O’s Big Turkey Spectacular float with a reggae performance. Darlene Love will bring some R&B on Balsam Hill’s Deck the Halls float.
