The part that is cut was an early flower. I’m a noob and this is an indeterminate beefsteak from seed.
Thanks for any help!

Wouldn’t cut either, it’s better to let it grow out into many main branches
Single strem/branch tomato cultivation lowers overall yield
Just cut the lower leaves that start to yellow as it gets older, and make sure this plant gets some support. Like a tomato cage or have it grow into a trellis

The left is the growing tip vs the right between the leaf and the stem is the sucker. I would remove the sucker.

I would remove the right one since it’s technically a ‘sucker’ but to be honest it’s up to you, the sucker will grow out instead of the main branch if you cut tee left one. Or maybe don’t cut either and see how it grows

Like others said, the one on the right is the “sucker”.
Be aware that when you’re doing single-stem, all it takes is ONE mishap (got windy….deer/rat/hornworm comes along….you screwed up….etc.) to ruin your single remaining stem, and it SUCKS when that happens.
Imho, it’s always better to leave a couple “backups” on the plant at any given time just in case — you can always prune them out later as needed/desired anyways.

Suckers of that size are good for cloning (stick it into moist potting soil. It’ll be a month or so behind schedule but may work out favorably.

Two tips let them be. That plant needs more branches it’s a little one still. Get it some support soon. Cage or trellis what ever floats your boat. Good luck 👍
