I just got a pair of vero cortado glasses from Not Neutral. They look great. The only thing is, they have a slightly rough texture / ripples on half the sides from an uneven glass melt? I was wondering if this is common for all of these cups, or if this is not normal and a manufacturing defect?

  1. Normal. Not Neutral considers them a variation that can occur during the manufacturing process due to changes in raw materials, environmental conditions, etc. They don’t impair the function so they aren’t considered a defect.

Absolutely love the look of these glasses. Are they good for latte art?

  3. I have their clear cortado glass and did not have that issue. I personally wouldn’t want a glass like that, I did not know that was common, guess I got lucky.

I would not like such a clear “defect” in a $20 glass. It’s called QC guys!

Glassblower here. The ripples are not an issue of the glass quality at all but they are actually chill marks from the mold. Basically the mold is a little too cold for the glass so that section is cooling quicker and causes the texture.

Not common and a defect whether or not they think it is. In a box of tumblers that I paid $35 for it’s probably shrug and take it for what it or if they were truly hand made in a traditional mold. But for $20 a glass that’s unacceptable! I’d be ashamed to put that out with my name on it specially since it would just get tossed back into the melt anyways.

Perhaps since they sell to a lot of commercial places and no cafe is going to complain about that they don’t bother and just do one policy and that’s unless it impedes function it’s good.

chill marks are a sign of uneven cooling when glass is poured into a mold. such defects won’t affect the structural Integrity however they are insightly and they are marks of poor quality in my opinion

No manufactured item is perfect. Defect is in the eye of the customer i would say.

    QC issue.

They should look amd feel like cut crystal.

  11. That’s a manufacturing defect. I’d be returning it or asking for some form of refund if you’re happy to keep.

    Ehhh not too bad.

I got one that was chipped at the lip. J.L hufford replaced, awesome store.

I’d return for a replacement. Ask yourself “If I was in a brick n mortar and had this in my hands, would I have bought it?”

I would be pretty bummed with that quality considering Duralex can sell a 6 pack of well known high quality glasses for $35

  15. I have these and mine dont have that. Id send back – if the texture is not an advertised feature its a defect IMO

Their mugs were good until they changed it to be lopsided and don’t fit saucers. Such a bummer

Mine have this as well, seems normal.
