Kicked out at 16, I never really learned how to cook big meals for supper. So this is my first attempt at making a spaghetti sauce! Italian sausage, red peppers, garlic, carrot, celery, mushrooms, some spicesโ€ฆ oh, and 5 lbs of beef. I even bought a pot just for the occasion. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿคค

    Well done.
I hope it tasted as good as youโ€™d hoped.
If not. There are lots of us out there to give advice and encouragement.

I hardly knew how to cook 7 years ago, now Iโ€™m obsessed. Glad you took the plunge. Keep at it, the sauce looks delicious!

  9. Cool. Keep at it. Covid times had me learning how to cook all the foods I wanted, since we sealed ourselves into a bubble with our infant.

Thatโ€™s a ragu bolognese! I make a pot of this every three weeks while the weather is cool. Also my first real recipe I made for myself. Congrats OP, welcome to being a home cook ๐Ÿ™‚

Nice job! Looks like what you’ve made there is Bolognese.

This is a slippery slope. As soon as you really learn to cook and itโ€™s a hobby, not a chore, you will bleed money buying all manner of things ๐Ÿ˜†.

Itโ€™s a seriously underrated skill and SO useful throughout your life.

  15. Congratulations. You just ruined eating out at 90% of “Italian” restaurants. Once you have good marinara everything else is suspect.

Nice! Color looks great. Never too late to learn stuff.. also you can learn to make food better than take out which is awesome

  17. You should be proud; thats a fine looking meaty sauce you got there. And excellent choice on the carrots, cutting the acidity without adding sugar. The nice thing about tomato sauces and chilis is they get better over the short term, so leftovers are always awesome.

The other lovely thing about sauces it doesn’t take much to make a world class meal. Take that sauce you made, add a little vodka and cream? BOOM excellent vodka sauce. Or that leftover pasta water? Poor some of into a pan, add an ungodly amount of peccorino and fresh cracked pepper, and you’ve got a delightful cacio e pepe.

That’s the alchemy of cooking, bud. Humble components to wonderful moments. Corny as hell. But true.

Nice work! Cooking can definitely be daunting. I still get nervous sometimes using a deep fryer and I’ve been cooking for decades lol ๐Ÿ˜†

That looks really good. And, if you don’t use it all, it should freeze really well.

YUM! Sauce like this freezes so well! I like to do individual servings in freezer bags (or cup cubes!). Super easy quick hearty homemade meal on the fly!
