Had to laugh at myself a little last night…
I’ve long been on the adventure of finding fun, flavorful, different hot sauces to take home but recently I realized I’d never gone down the Cholula line. I’ve had the classic countless times but never thought to even look at what they might offer until now so it’s been on my radar…
So, I saw this on sale while I was out shopping yesterday and thought “Hey, let’s start there!”
Fast forward to Dinner that night. My GF and I are enjoying a nice easy meal I made, watching some TV, and I figured, I’ll just try a bit now.
Well, first bite in… tasty… not disappointing… but it’s just, y’know, extra spicy Cholula. Take another bite… enjoying it, but yeah, it’s just extra spicy Cholula. Third bite in I finally figure it all out… it’s just extra spicy Cholula!
I guess somewhere in my mind, with all the Scorpion sauces, Ghost Pepper sauces, Reapers, Habaneros, and so on, I had this weird expectation that it would be… different? LoL.
TL;DR – It’s just Extra Spicy Cholula 🙂

As advertised 🤣
But really, it is some good sauce!
Extra Spicy Cholula stan here, ama
It’s so good on eggs.
I find it to be less flavorful than the original.
Oh hell yeah, I need this is my life.
Very tasty. I prefer it to the other big name Mexican tables sauces valentinas or tapatio.
have you tried the sweet habanero? so tasty
This is my favorite sauce at the moment. Love the little extra kick and it goes on everything I’ve tried so far. Potato soup, burritos, pizza.. chefs kiss to this sauce!
And it’s delicious!
Actually just got this and it’s good on everything. Not spicy but it has a spice that’s quite nice.
You put it right, it is just spicier cholula.
Nothing crazy. Just a step up for people exploring spice, who felt cholula was spicy.
I bought a bottle for shits and giggles too. I enjoy regular cholula more, its actually a top 10 sauce for me. But this has its place.
I think sometimes, us spice heads can have very unfair expectations for products commonly available to the general public. This sets us up for disappointment.
I thought you worded your post well, I enjoyed reading a consumer’s take on it, even though you obviously like spicier stuff. I hope everyone would understand that this is a good choice for your everyday Joe.
Good but basically the same as all standard Mexican restaurant table hot sauces. Valentina, Tapatio, etc.
I am on my eight bottle. shit is good
Not a Cholula fan historically, but the extra hot has become a go-to
Once you see bob saget on the label you can’t not see him
I can’t find it anywhere around where I live.
Still haven’t found these anywhere 🙁
“Extra hot”. I highly doubt it.
Exactly! Costs the same at my store, and I like it better.
Can you really ever go wrong with Cholula, though, really!?!
It’s good because it’s a classic.
Have you tried it on macaroni, let me finish, salad?
Yeah it takes some getting used to the lack of a punch. But at the same time my favorite is the Chipotle Cholula sauce. No heat, but man it tastes good, put it on everything. Plus if you want to spice it up add some other sauces to it as well.
I’m so used to spicy at this point in my life that I don’t even consider “extra” hot or spicy to be extra, it’s just regular spicy, everything else is tomato colored vinegar to me.
