Bonne Maman makes my favorite preserves, I always have a jar of their raspberry preserves in the house. I was ecstatic when I'm I saw that they had a few flavors of ice cream at my local co-op, both raspberry jam swirl and strawberry jam swirl. I picked up the raspberry swirl and I was pretty disappointed. Here are my notes:
I love fruit ice creams with mix-ins but this one was really airy. I'm not sure if the raspberry chunks compromised the texture or if it just wasn't meant to be a creamy texture. The ice cream itself was even separating from the sides of the pint when I opened it.
The jam wasn't cohesive, it was ice crystal-y and had a weird chew to it, but still tasted good. I think I would have liked it if it had just the jam in it, and not whole raspberry mix-ins as well.
The ice cream base seemed to be just a sweet cream. It didn't specify on the pint that it was vanilla ice cream. It said that there were vanilla beans as one of the last ingredients in the ingredient list, but I didn't taste them at all when I was trying to figure that part out. I like the simplicity of that, I think it helped highlight the slight tartness to the raspberry flavor (which was further accepted by lemon juice, also listed in the ingredients but not uniquely tasted.)
Overall, 6/10. Wouldn't purchase this one again, probably wouldn't try the strawberry one either as this set me back just under $7.

  1. That’s disappointing. Like you, I like their jam.

I’ll probably try it myself if I see it at the store though.

Hm, I wonder if it melted/softened at some point. The separation from the sides is strange.

Looks like it was defrosted and refrozen!
