Went to Toka Chef Kitchen when I came back to NYC. I had been wanting to go for a while, but couldn’t find the time to go back to the city.

I thought it was an AYCE omakase, where you eat an omakase, and then have 1 or 2 rounds to order as much fish as you want for free. As far as I can tell this only exists in NYC, Japan (or at least high-end AYCE), and Sushi Taro in DC.

Unfortunately, they changed their menu a few days ago to be no longer AYCE, pretty much just a regular omakase and a la carte place.

However, fortunately for me, everything was 30% off due to this. This meant 30% off the omakase menu, and 30% off all the a la carte pieces. I got their cheapest option omakase, plus a bunch of a la carte pieces. In addition, every piece was only priced at a mere $5. This meant that the best pieces, such as King Salmon and Toro with caviar, were only $3.50 each.

The toro was fine as toro is and the salmon was excellent, and they didn’t skimp even though it was not as expensive. The quality doesn’t match up to $150+ omakases, but I didn’t expect it to, and was quite happy with what I got. At $3.50 each, it’s downright a crime. If you go here, I recommend just ordering a la carte and spamming those two pieces.

I asked and they are apparently doing this until next month, so if you want to try good sushi for cheap then now is the time.
