As always: simplicity of Mexican food. It bothers me when people says that Mexican food is unhealthy or dirty ๐Ÿ™„ my lunch has carbs, protein, calcium and greens ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

That’s because their idea of Mexican food is tacobell.

  2. LB_Burrito

I also hate when people say Mexican food is “simple” and “working class”

If anyone says that, it is because they do not know anything about not only Mexican food, but food in general. No culture has exclusively healthy or unhealthy food.

  4. mofugly13

I don’t know anyone who says Mexican food is unhealthy or dirty

  5. NintendogsWithGuns

It **can** be unhealthy, but the same can be said for every food culture. The Mexican food we make in my household tends to be healthier, whereas my in-laws seem to primarily subsist on barbacoa, carne asada, and tripas.

There are plenty of unhealthy dishes in all cuisines, and even more healthy dishes.

But who the Hell is saying โ€˜dirtyโ€™?

  7. Oh, come now. Some Mexican food has a really healthy portion of veggies, but this ain’t it.ย

Who TAF says Mexican food is dirty? What do they even mean by that?

Only people Iโ€™ve heard say this are the ones with only Taco Bell or similar or worseโ€ฆ went to washington once and thought id try one of their taco bell type drive throughs. I saw through that window the greyest bean squirted out of a gun.. paired with the worst looking lettuce and cheese. The tortilla was so soft and doughy ๐Ÿคฎ the most disgusting thing id eaten in a long time.

To me this is demonstrated really clearly in how differently people react to pita, hummus, and Greek salad vs tortilla, refried beans and pico de gallo.

Three items with super similar nutritional profiles but one is definitely seen as less healthy.

Where my family is from most peoples diets mainly consist of nopales, squash, squash flowers, lots of ย mushrooms, and gualumbos which are the yellow flowers that grow from an agave when it blooms.

I wish I ate that way too but unfortunately I only like a handful of veggies.ย

Welcome to almost every stereotype of ethnic food in western lands. Gratz you know how to eat healthy. I just ate a salad and im American. Am I blowing your mind?

Not sure if a few pieces of cilantro counts as “greens,” but it looks delicious and I’d gladly eat it.

I have a friend i met through gaming and he lives in Mexico City. Speaking with him at length about cultural differences in our foods has allowed my wife and I to trade recipes with him.

Have eaten some of the BEST foods in my life because of him.

Mexican food has simple whole ingredients and is based on fresh produce. Itโ€™s an underrated cuisine for health (and taste) especially if made traditionally,

  16. Franklintheplankton

It certainly can be healthy, but sometimes I am alarmed with how fast I go through pork lard though lol

  17. Elvecinogallo

I didnโ€™t know people said that it was dirty. Can definitely be unhealthy depending on what you get as with any food.

  18. Who is saying Mexican food is โ€œdirtyโ€โ€ฆ..thatโ€™s bizarre. I can see people thinking itโ€™s unhealthy if they are eating Americanized Mexican food covered in yellow cheese and sour cream and deep fried. Anyone who knows how to order can easily have very healthy Mexican food.

  19. GalacticCoinPurse

What they like to order is unhealthy. Instead of ordering a healthier choice, they blame.

The world would be a sad and bland place without Mexican food.

You also do have to fry your beans and can just eat them whole. Boil them add salt, maybe a little knorr and your set. Great with poached eggs avocado and corn tortillas.

  22. Calling a few sprigs of cilantro greens is a stretch and those tortillas look greasy as fuck. Looks absolutely delicious though.

  23. >> Mexican food is unhealthy or dirty

*Who* is saying that??? There are less healthy dishes but who is calling it dirty?

  24. TBoopSquiggShorterly

A sprinkling of cilantro really doesnโ€™t count as a serving of greens, but yeah, this is a great lunch.
