Before buying the Ninja Barista (CFN601C), Googleninja espresso barista not piercing pods”. It would have saved me a year of frustration.

We went through three units in about a year, and every single one eventually stopped piercing standard Nespresso style pods. When that happens, the machine just leaks water everywhere instead of brewing.

I also found that one of the failures came from a tiny crack in the pod holder. That crack let pressure escape during brewing, so the machine didnt build enough force to pierce the pod. Instead of puncturing it, the water just leaked back into the holder.

When it worked, the coffee was great. But the failures were constant.

One of the replacements had another common issue right out of the box. It kept throwing add water errors mid brew, and I had to hit continue multiple times. That came from a tiny water sensor inside the machine. Swapping the sensor from an older unit fixed that part for a bit, but the piercing problem came back once the pressure pump weakened.

In the end, Ninja wouldnt replace it with the same model, so they made us pick a different product. We ended up choosing an ice cream maker even though we preferred to keep the same coffee machine.

From everything Ive seen, the real issue is the low quality pressure pump or the pod holder, not the waffle grid. A quick search shows plenty of people running into the same piercing failure.

Great coffee when it works. But we spent more time fighting defects than enjoying coffee. I really wish we had avoided it.

My advice to you is just get a Nespresso machine, for great cups of coffee.

I had this machine and I agree. I bought mine from Best Buy and I went through two before calling it quits. I got the Latissima One now and freaking love it.

I had this machine for around 2 years and hated every minute of it. The machine could NOT pierce lavazza pods, which is sad because I love the light green ones. It would randomly just crush pods regardless of brand. So much wasted money.

I bought a Pixie and it is night and day. The shots are better tasting, hotter, and it heats so much faster. I still have a french press for regular coffee.

I get the appeal of having the dual brewing system, but DO NOT BUY THE NINJA NESPRESSO MACHINE unless you want to be sad.

FWIW my Citiz is celebrating its 10th birthday this month with no issues along the way. Not sure if they’re still well made but the reliability is unbeatable.
