Realized making ice cream is a hobby of mine ever since I inherited a cuisinart ice cream maker about 2 years ago i think. I have made like 8 different batches to date and all were a hit! But how would ice cream do as Christmas gifts? Opinions?? I also crochet and ice cream seems easier/cheaper?

Looks delicious! I think if you can figure out the logistics of making sure it won’t melt before giving it to them, it would make a great gift

I gave out ice cream for Christmas last year and plan on doing the same this year. I bought a bunch of paper pint and quart containers and drew my own labels on them with sharpies.

I think it would be a huge hit! Gifts are hard as adults because a lot of us don’t want more stuff, but treats are always appreciated. I’m going to make a “your custom ice cream” coupon to throw into my families white elephant this year, which is less ambitious than making everyone one 😂
Also, I was thinking of doing almost identical Flavors this year- cream cheese base with ginger bread, peppermint hot coco (maybe make some marshmallows for that one) and one based off the type of cookie we all love.

Love the idea

You could crochet pint coozies for next year, and gift a pint and an ice cream coozie! (Again, this is an idea for next year!)

I can’t unsee the lower half of someone’s face in that… nose, upper-lip, slightly grinning mouth, even a lower lip and masculine chin…

I love the idea of giving ice cream as gifts. I would totally do this, but most of my family is not nearby. I also love getting people’s input into flavor combinations! I do this regularly when I bring it into work for team events — poll everyone on what flavors they want using Slack.

My MIL makes an amazing Christmas icecream like dessert and she freezes it in festive shaped silicone moulds and pops it out into a bowl.
She sent me the recipe a few years ago… so here is my gift to you:
Frozen Plum Pudding.
Confectioners Custard
Whip together 3 egg yolks and 3oz. Caster sugar with 1 oz. flour, in a 2 pint Pyrex bowl Boil half pint of milk with a vanilla stick. Add to the batter and whip, place bowl in a saucepan with boiled water and stir until the mixture is very thick and smooth. The water comes up the bowl by a couple of inches, so not as much as the batter. The water remains on the heat slightly more than simmering.
I Find the thickening can take 15_20 minutes. Can be made ahead and stored in the fridge overnight.
Place all the fruit in a roomy bowl and cover with the wine. Leave overnight. Strain thoroughly. Mix together the cream and custard. Fold in the fruit, place in a Tupperware box, cover with lid and freeze. One can also use a mould for a little fancier shape or use individual silicone shapes and cover with cling film, when frozen transfer into a sealed box.
If there is a fruit you do not like omit and add extra of another.

I’m sure with the aid of an icecream maker and a few modifications this could make a tasty Christmas icecream.

I think it’s safe to say that if you ask an ice cream subreddit if ice cream is a good gift, we’re pretty much all gonna say ‘Hell yeah!”
That aside, I personally would wanna bake and include it in whatever flavor I’m making. (Brownie and banana pudding ice cream, Berry Linzer cookie smash with lemon ice cream, Tiramisu ice cream, Carrot cake and cheesecake ice cream, ectect) (Also, as a way of putting more love/effort into it.)
(Before I filled them, I would either draw on the containers or very carefully and securely glue wrapping paper on the containers so it looks to be intentionally part of the packaging. My recipient can still open and close the container with ease.)
I’ve also made ice cream sandwiches with chocolate chip cookies (crispy edge, soft center) and Baileys irish cream ice cream, but that was for entertaining. It was not a gift. It was really good. Particularly if you make it with a bit of sea salt when baking the cookies. Or a salted caramel drizzle in the ice cream.
Crocheting something at this point in the month for more than one person does not sound like something I personally could accomplish at all.
