EUROPE – French poultry company LDC has acquired a majority stake in UK-based Gressingham Foods through Green Label Holdings, operated by the Buchanan family who founded the business in 1971.
LDC, a publicly listed firm, did not disclose the financial terms or exact stake acquired, referring to the transaction as a “strategic partnership.”
The French supplier said the acquisition expands its UK presence alongside its Welsh subsidiary and European imports, enabling a broader product offering for local customers.
Gressingham Foods is primarily known for duck but also produces poultry under its brand, operating farms covering over 250,000 square metres that supply around half of its poultry needs.
The company’s portfolio includes turkey, goose, and guinea fowl, supplying major UK retailers and the foodservice sector, and is now run by second-generation family members William and Geoff Buchanan.
Earlier in 2025, Gressingham Foods acquired UK foodservice supplier Central Foods to expand its market presence.
About the two companies
LDC, formally Lambert Dodard Chancereul, is a family-owned company generating US$7.3 billion in revenue and operating 105 production sites across France, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Romania, and Hungary.
The group owns brands including Loué, Le Gaulois, Maître CoQ, and Doux, covering a broad range of poultry products.
Philippe Gelin, LDC’s CEO, said the deal aligns values between the two companies and creates opportunities for consumers, customers, and farming partners in the UK.
The acquisition continues LDC’s strategy of growth through mergers and acquisitions, following last year’s purchases of French meat and plant-based business Groupe Routhiau and Germany’s European Convenience Food.
LDC also acquired Poland-based producer Pierre Martinet and the Konspol brand with its factory in Nowy Sącz, and entered the UK in 2021 with a majority stake in Capestone Organic Poultry.
According to Companies House filings, Green Label Holdings reported a turnover of US$250 million for the year ending 28 February, up from US$228 million the previous year.
Operating profit rose to US$29 million from US$23 million, while net profit increased to US$21 million from US$16 million in the prior period.
