[homemade] Tried my hand at roasted duck for the first time this Thanksgiving.
I was put in charge of Thanksgiving dinner this year. Tried my hand at a roasted duck and was very pleased with the results!

Why did you decide duck? I’m very curious. And also, why were you pleased? Were you surprised?

Is duck typically dark and red like that when fully cooked? Just curious. Never had it before

Duck is the most underrated meat. Turkey is the most overrated.
Imo anyways.

That looks great. Duck is way better than turkey imo.
I have never had duck that was dry. But have had numerous turkeys that the meat, even dark meat, is dry and inedible. My in laws and spouse hate duck so I never make it anymore.
Even brining the turkey doesn’t help much. But with duck I feel like the meat is always moist and flavorful.
Good job.

I’ve heard that duck can be quite gamey, how do you work with that? Or is this not a wild duck?

I love duck but my partner forbade me from cooking it because our little NY apartment smells like duck for days afterward (and the oven is a splattered mess as well).
Compromise is to buy a duck breast and cook it in the air fryer, dumping out the fat frequently during cooking.
A few years ago, at the Union Square Holiday Market, some guys operated a stand called ‘Duck Season’ which featured gastronomic delights such as duck bacon poutine and duck burgers. Sadly, they’ve been MIA since 2022.
