WFMY News 2 got an answer from K&W’s founding family.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — After K&W suddenly closed all of its remaining cafeterias on Monday, many longtime fans are clamoring for recipes of their favorite dishes.

Some former K&W employees are posting recipes while others are sharing copycat recipes. The WFMY News 2 team tasted the chain’s famous baked spaghetti live on air and tried to guess the secret ingredients. Here’s a link to some recipes.

Many fans want to know if the bona fide recipes from the founding K&W family will be shared.

WFMY News contacted Dax Allred, the former president of K&W Cafeteria and the grandson of the chain’s founder, Grady Allred Sr. K&W was founded in Winston-Salem in 1937.

Dax Allred shared this statement: As saddened as we are to see the closure of our family’s legacy brand, we take heart in being reminded of how much K&W has meant to so many across its rich history. As for the recipes, they were sold as intellectual property along with the sale of the business in 2022.

K&W sold the family business to restaurant management group, Falcon Holdings, in 2022, two years after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

WFMY News 2 has reached out to Falcon Holdings several times but haven’t received a response. The company has not addressed the reason for the closure, how many employees lost their jobs, the plan for gift cards and the future of the closed restaurant spaces.

The company shared this statement on social media on Monday to announce the closure.
