I’ve been toying with this idea for a while and wanted to take the community’s temperature to see if there’s any real interest.

The basic idea: a flat monthly subscription that ships out a curated selection of unique tins each month — likely featuring a lot of options from Spain and Portugal.

Would this be something you’d actually be into?
How many tins would feel right for a monthly box?
And what do you think a reasonable price point would be?

Thanks for hearing me out and for any feedback!

Hi. What’s on the floor? Tin cans carpeting?

We do that. I believe there are others as well. Ours is about $80 and is usually 6-10 tins depending on their value.

Different boxes for different price points. Add a gifting service.

Eh, too expensive for aht you get. I can find better deals on my own.

I mean you’re going to get a lot of interest in this group.

I would definitely subscribe. Being new, and with option overload idk what’s good and what’s not.

  6. For myself, I’m opposed to subscription-based sales. Not just for tinned seafood, but for all the consumer goods the interWebs are aiming at us nowadays. Gift boxes make nice gifts, sometimes, but the value-proposition is rarely solid if one is buying for oneself. Multiply that value shortfall month over month, year over year with auto-renewing subscriptions and automated electronic payments, and too often the subscribers are getting the very short end of the stick.

    But that’s just me.

With a mouth full of Cornish Sardines i give you a nod.

  9. My two biggest considerations would be the monthly price and the brands included. I would absolutely love to receive 4-5 “common” tins that aren’t otherwise available in the USA, but probably not if it costs $100 a month; similarly, $100 a month for a tin each of Alalunga, ABC+, La Brújula, and Güeyu Mar might be worth it, but those are brands I can get fairly easily so I don’t know how likely I’d be to pay additional subscription fees for.

I’d certainly be interested in hearing more details; put me as a tentative “no” to a monthly tin subscription. Not trying to be rude, but the lack of details provided doesn’t instill me with confidence in your ability to execute an international subscription service.

  10. I could be in, as with most things, it depends on pricing. I don’t mind paying extra to someone who is passionate in their selections, to a point.

I tried the Tinned Fish Club for one month, and the “surprise” factor was fun, but I quit right away because I’m too picky an eater, so a couple of the cans didn’t appeal to me. I think a curated subscription service would be great for someone who is just starting out in tinned fish and so hasn’t tried many yet and who also doesn’t have any food allergies or strong dislikes.
