I have better pics but trying to keep it slightly anonymous. Apparently he ate there the bright before, had to record a promo video for new menu items. Asked could he do it in our kitchen. …the chefs in my place didnt know him. I… called in sick to other job to go see.

He was very nice, very charming, taller than i thought and … ahem… muscular..- very similar to how he comes across on tv/youtube

Was fun watching him and chef tour the kitchen and geek out about equipment,

He chatted away to me (he was late and I walked in to chef saying 'this is the one who called in sick to meet you!') Invited me in for photos, remembered my name for at least 10nins.

Asked me 'could you please get the music turned down?' (It was a beautiful moment)

I think we had a special connection.

10/10, would stare at again.

And you didn’t have him adopt you on the spot? Disappointed chef…

The most awaited! The man! The myth! The Legend!

  3. I was, frankly, so uncool  during the whole thing. I dont even care. Never washing that hand again.

Chef was like ‘aren’t you working today’ (im a part time dishie with other jobs and ive been bitching about my too many hours for a month)  I was like ‘ah…. not exactly’. I admitted id called in sick, awkwardly, and was like ‘its important to prioritize ‘ . He was cool and like ‘yea, I get it’. Thanks chef.

(I asked was he nervous and he got terribly offended- like NO- he is my PEER, my restaraunt is ALWAYS  clean and looks GOOD (there were messages in the chat about folding the towels identically) We probably met each other loads back in New York, i just dont remember- lol)

    Lee was in the building?!

  6. He steals tips from his employees and gives them to his shit head sons who drive Bentleys

First time I ran across him was as a college kid watching Top Chef Masters. There was a challenge involving prep of eel and he was almost giddy about getting to do it. Have followed him ever since.

Honestly, best meal I have ever eaten…Lee 2006.

  9. BeemoBurrito

Is he still stealing tips and forcing his employees to cover for restaurant operation costs, like spilled drinks, incorrect orders, broken plates, and dine-and-dashes?

  10. That dude is super nice. I was at a restaurant I hadn’t been to before and we saw him with his friends so we just copied their orders. When his lobster tower came out he said one was too big for just me and my friend to tackle on our own so he sent us some of theirs.

Somehow this post feels like an erotic novel….

Can I ask what makes being asked to turn down music a “beautiful moment”

I thought you were showing off that cool pitcher

I have a picture from when I was a kid where I was sitting on his lap

You should have gave him a grapefruit or something and had him make you something cool.

  16. Sanquinity

Hey it’s that iron chef guy who’s son makes YouTube videos with him. 😛

  17. HapaCoffee

Hate to be that guy, but seriously fuck that dude. Underpaying workers, withholding checks, stealing tips, forcing staff to pay for any extra costs of their “mistakes”… I had a time where I fanboyed over Susur Lee too, but that ship has long since sailed.

The size of that carafe is taking me out. Lmao

Susur Lee is a nototious POS.

It was a common practice for him to steal tips from waiters, deny any time off, and expect all his staff to work incredibly long hours without overtime. All this is public knowledge and has been reported on.

I once dated a girl who worked for one of his restaurants and she said he was incredibly abusive towards his staff or anyone he viewed as “beneath” him. He often mocked her speech impediment.

People always glorify him, but hes a total asswipe. Im ashamed hes synonymous with Toronto.

  20. How is this a good thing? His restaurants are terrible to work for. He should get no praise.

  21. ELECTRICMACHINE13

    That’s Iron Chef to you.

Why are you taking a picture of a guy taking a picture of a guy

  25. I got my start in the industry working for this man. He is a saint, and I owe my whole career to him!

  26. ColdCauliflour

That water…. Pitcher…?… Is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen

  27. SleazyGreasyCola

Susur is a bitch. Fuck that guy, hes been exploiting cooks for decades.
