LELAND, Miss. — From live music echoing through downtown to horse-drawn carriage rides, there was no shortage of holiday cheer Saturday as Christmas on Deer Creek drew crowds to Leland.

The Allstars set the tone early, singing classics like “Don’t you let nothing, nothing stand in your way,” while families lined streets filled with activities, shopping and food.

Nancy Jo King, who attends the celebration every year, said she enjoys being part of every aspect — especially the parade.

“Well, it’s all my favorite part. We have the Christmas parade, which I do every year, and then we have the jumpy houses for the kids and the vendors and the music. So, it’s all fun,” King said.

Beyond bounce houses, children had access to go-carts, a small ice-skating area and even mechanical bull riding. For some young visitors, the sports-themed attractions were the highlight.

“I like the baseball, footballs and the soccer,” said John Martin of Leland, standing alongside friend Jud Davis.
“What he likes,” Davis added with a laugh.

Ben Holder, also from Leland, said he was thrilled to work on his baseball skills.
“Yeah, it’s my life,” he said.

Dozens of food booths also lined the streets, offering everything from local dishes to fair-style favorites.

Sherry Smythe, one of the event organizers, said the festival has expanded significantly in recent years.

“This is the 67th Christmas on Deer Creek, but this is five years that we’ve been working on this as an all-year, all-day festival, and we’re so excited. It’s a great turnout this year,” Smythe said.

Organizers say the goal remains the same — maintaining tradition and giving families something festive to look forward to each winter. For many visitors, that goal appeared to be met.

“I think everybody’s having a good time. The weather turned out real good. So, it’s just been a fun event,” King said.

With smiles, full crowds and holiday music filling the air, this year’s celebration proved to be another tree-mendous success.
