Koshary is Egypt’s national dish – a cheap, hearty, and satisfying meal loved by everyone. While most people know the famous Abou Tarek in downtown Cairo, there are plenty of other spots serving up this delicious classic. Come with me to Koshary Hend, a cozy local spot in Giza and one of my go-tos whenever I’m craving this carb-loaded comfort food.

  1. Thank you for this video. I miss koshary. We have an Egyptian restaurant here but a koshary bowl is $12.

  2. Hi, great video! just wanted to highlight Koshari is ancient Egyptian and not Indian originated, you can find more info on Wikipedia, amazing video nonetheless!!

  3. Great video, you're making me really miss everything there!! I will definitely try this place out when I return in February/March. What is the name of the delivery app?

  4. Great video as usual Gigi, my wife and I will visit Egypt Nov 10th till the 21st and staying in Maadi if you please recommend couple of restaurants around there and who knows maybe we get to see you somewhere there.

  5. I just love your sweet laugh and smile during talking so cute and helierios .just tell how a good heart you have and thx for what you do and your efforts i can finally see my own country egypt through you 😊 as I am a way for the time being

  6. Nice vlog as always! Good historical background (Original Indian dish is called Khichdi)! I wouldn't consider koshary, though, a national dish ! Fool and Falafel , among other, are considered national dishes! definitely, Koshary is a pretty popular street food , especially in Cairo. In Alexandria, with a population of more than 5 million, Koshary is not the same and not that popular as a street food! Just white rice with red split Lentils with your favourite carmelized onion on top. Not much as a street food though! That how it used to be when I left Egypt 30 years ago. Cheers

  7. Afternoon Giselle from little me in Melbourne, I just want you to know I love your videos so educational, and since my husband died last year it keeps him with me ,as he and our daughter last year in January went to Egypt and then sad he died on July 1st I feel happy he got to do his dream he and our daughter loved every minute ,our daughter has a different appreciate of life and respect , when I watch your videos I always feel I am right there how cool is that lots Hugs Evie xoxo

  8. This video was one of my favorites actually! Some of your commentary literally had me laugh out loud 😂 But truly, I’m super grateful for all your videos ☺️

  9. You took me back to my Egypt days , love your work , Your driving clips in Full HD TV is so life like , you're the best 🥰😍🥰

  10. Egyptian koshari is completely different from Indian koshari and I would like to add some information. India makes a food that is similar in name but different in the internal ingredients of the dish. India knew koshari during the British occupation of India, as Indian koshari was the collection of leftover food from British soldiers. As for Egyptian koshari, it has been eaten since the era of the Pharaohs, but in the past it was without adding pasta and without adding tomato sauce. As for lentil grains, they were eaten in ancient Egypt. I do not know why there is wrong information on internet blogs and koshari is attributed to a god, although Egypt has been eating koshari and lentils since the era of the Pharaohs. 😊.

  11. It's funny that this was my country and I now live in the US, it's the opposite with you. What's interesting that now when I miss Egypt I watch your videos! God, how I miss the koshari so much!!!

  12. It's so funny when you said koshari "El" Hend lol it's just Hend habebty like the girl's name, we say El Hend when we mean the country India.

  13. Great video! Can't wait to be at Cairo in 3 days! Will be staying close to Abu Tarek so trying them out is easy. Let's see if we can try the 'Hind' version as well!

Can't thank you enough for all the learning we have gotten via your channel. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

    Here's to G Ventures! 🍻

(We still secretly hope that we will run into you during our stay at Cairo/Giza)

  14. Koshary Hend is one of the best Egyptian food, unfortunately it's the most underrated place 😢😢😢 By the way you asked about what is that yellow thing, it's yellow lentil which we used to cook it as lentil soup .They add both yellow and black lentil .That's why Hend's koshary is one of the best restaurants. ❤

  15. I told my Spanish teacher that Egypt has a history of several thousands years, but their national food is macaroni with a tomato sauce. As a culinarian, this just didn't make sense to me. But how rude that was, the koshary is actually tasting fantastic. Im buying it here for 35EGP in Alexandria. I feel so guilty for being treated this cheap – I arrived 6 days ago and several places here (a stonethrow outside downtown centre of Alex) have already said "you dont need to pay as you are guest''. Many are so friendly I feel my heart is not pure enough to be on same level. Gosh.
