Wine Spectator has announced its Top 100 Wines of 2025, naming Château Giscours Margaux 2022 as the #1 Wine of the Year.
Each year, Wine Spectator editors survey the wines reviewed over the previous 12 months and select their Top 100 based on quality, value, availability and excitement.
The 100 bottles for 2025 were chosen from more than 10,200 wines.
“Our list of honourees provides a snapshot of the year in wine, covering both top-scoring wines and amazing values,” says Wine Spectator.
“The 2023 vintage figures prominently for California, with a strong showing from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Zinfandel. After struggling last year, France bounces back on the strength of its 2022 vintage. Italy enjoys 20 percent of the entries.”
Thirty-eight wines earned their spot on the Top 100 for the first time this year; and while 14 of the wines are priced at $100 or more, 34 cost $30 or less.
The list features successful wineries, regions and vintages around the world, including Bordeaux, California, Italy and New Zealand, among many others.
This year, five New Zealand wines were named in the list:
20. Rimapere Single Vineyard Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2024
33. Loveblock Marlborough TEE Sauvignon Blanc 2023
44. Burn Cottage Central Otago Moonlight Race Pinot Noir 2023
62. Te Pa Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2024
74. Marisco Marlborough The Ned Pinot Gris 2024
Loveblock’s TEE is an experimental wine that represents a bold departure from traditional winemaking.
Crafted from organic grapes grown in the Awatere Valley, TEE is a single-vineyard Sauvignon Blanc that is first in the world to replace the traditional preservative (sulphites), with tannin extracted from green tea.
TEE represents years of pioneering work for Erica and Kim Crawford, exploring flavour, structure, and natural protection in ways that haven’t been seen before in New Zealand or indeed the world.
Erica says her hope is that it inspires others to be brave and keep pushing the boundaries of what New Zealand wine can do.
