Is it a good idea? It’s been sitting under a porch for God knows how many years. I’m especially concerned about the inside of the lid. Deposits from cooking or is that like some sort of paint or coating? Thanks for lending your expertise.

Sure, why not? If you have the time, take some degreaser and clean it up like new
That thing is a proper gem, it just needs a good cleaning and a healthy burn
You’ll be glad you did
The lid is not rusting that’s just build up crap from grilling u can scrape with a plastic putty knife
Stop thinking. Start doing. Have fun!
💯 these are great
Why did you put it away??
That’s a great kettle. All it needs is a little TLC.
Would love to see a before and after.
Do that grill some justice. If you decide to not put the elbow grease into cleaning it up – give it to somebody who would. Will take you a couple of hours but that could clean up really well, and if it doesn’t make you happy enough to do it, it would for sure make somebody else happy enough to clean it up and put it to use !
Hell man.. I’ve been grilling on Webers for over 25 years. The only thing that thing needs is a wire brush to get the creosote off the lid, maybe some new grates since they weren’t pictured.
Have at it!
give it a scrub down with some ashes and water and heat it up for a good proper clean and it will be ready to serve you for your next BBQ
The disrespect…
Nice Heavy Duty
You bet ya, give a good power wash and scrubbing!
I have restored a few of these , they are my favourite model.
Clean it up , scrape out the flaking creosote in the lid and then light her up and get grilling.

I have custom modded two of them and turned them into this. My other is two red kettles
Restoration project well worth the investment in time!
Fire is not going to care what it looks like.
Neither does flavour.
But maybe a quick hose down, then use the fire to dry it! Smrt thinking eh. D’oh I mean smart thinking eh.
I have that vintage and she’ll provide you a lifetime of good grilling if you take care of her.
That’s creosote. Do a high temp burn off to sanitize everything and it will also burn off and of that on the lid.
I have the same one! (I think) it was my dad’s. Its from 1998. Been rained and snowed on uncovered for all the years, still in great shape. Just replaced the grates when it got

Friend, that doesn’t work anymore, throw it away and tell me where
Hell yeah those are dope man super easy to clean
The blades and lever in the bottom disintegrated! I’m off to ace hardware for Weber part 7444 https://www.acehardware.com/departments/outdoor-living/grills-and-smokers/grill-replacement-parts/8353062
Carbon build up from cooking. Wire brush it off, powerwash it, fire it up
