What do you use to hold maybe very small amount of stiffer border royal icing?
I am new to this lol and I was trying to draw the cactus like but clearly they look like a mess. I should have stopped but it was late and I wanted to see how it looked so here I am regretting my decision and I might have to make replacements. I think I need stiffer icing as a starter but I also need the line to be sooooo much thinner. I have seen in books where people fold parchment triangles for this. Do you have success with a bag and tip combo? What size tip would you use?

I use a variety of sizes of tipless bags
Honestly using super sharp scissors you should be able to cut a tipless piping bag small enough to achieve the thickness you need. You could also try a wet on wet technique for this type of design!
Actually I think this looks quite good. Of course we start with how we want it to look and sometimes it’s not exact so we go thinking it isn’t right… but this looks good, I like it- I’d be happy with it- and I’m pretty picky about my outcomes.
I’ve had decorating supplies for years. Parchment paper works well but can feel uncomfortable in my hand. Reusable bags come in all sizes. I use bottles for most of my outlines & floods, 1 for each thickness (Sweet Sugarbelle). For details decorating bag with 1S tip. I’ve recently began disposable tipless bags as well. I’m thinking the icing responds (gets looser with the heat of my hand). I’m conscious of recycling so to be more sustainable I lean into reusable as much as possible. Try everything & you’ll discover what works best for you. Mostly have fun!
Tipless bags so you can cut it to the size you want [piping bags](https://a.co/d/cuAvBFv)& have your icing be like a toothpaste consistency, then when mixing your colors – mix it in the stiffer consistency first, bag about a spoonful or two, then do your flood consistency and make a second bag

They 🌵 look great! Good job! 👏🏻
What if you covered up the parts you dont like with white dots for spikes?
I think they look great. Sometimes after you’ve done something when you keep staring at it you start to hate it.. ask me how I know🤣 I’ve always preferred using piping tips to snipping the end off, just what I learned on. You could try using a 1s and much thinner icing or if the One S is a little too small you could use a one tip
I use pastry bags and piping tips. For cactus cookies I usually use a #2 tip to outline and decorate. Icing should be about toothpaste consistency.
I haven’t tried it myself yet, but a video popped up on my feed of how to achieve super thin lines– like the type you write with, and she demonstrated how absolutely teeny tiny the snip was on the end of the bag she used.
She just warned you have to constantly pinch/wipe the tip because it dries out stupid fast. Gonna try it next time 🫡
