“Love” in air quotes, since this is a new horrifying infection to worry about, but yeah. The irony is definitely strong with this one.

Holy shit. I was just commenting on this yesterday that this has never happened

    This isn’t stupid foods anymore

This is “dumb ways to die” categories.

isn’t this essentially the same thing that happened with mad cow disease/”bovine scrapie” in the 90s?

people ate standard beef while the industry knew there were sick cows and there were deaths linked to it. because these deaths can only occur if exposed to fucked up meat (infected with rogue prions) which came from things like beef burgers, and other beef products that may include spinal cord adjacent tissues. so… these guys are selling or trying to give away meat allegedly not for consumption, but distributing it none the less KNOWING that the deaths that *might* come from it are inarguably one of the worst most miserable ways to die?

    🙁

    shouldn’t this meat be incinerated?

    Nope. Nope. Nope.

CWD is fucking terrifying, prion disease like mad cow.. The only way to “kill” it is to put the deer in an incinerator and cook it to 1000 degrees.

Not really a coincidence, someone brought up that case in the comments on the original post about the infected deer meat and then someone made a post about it after seeing that comment.

It isn’t that it is venison. It is prion-disease contaminated meat.

Came looking for this! I saw the stupid food post earlier and just saw the interestingasfuck post and came back here to check and see if they had been linked yet.

It’s actually terrifying how resistant prions are. Since prions are only misfolded proteins, and proteins are not living organisms, they can remain highly infectious on surfaces for years, and conventional sterilization methods do not work on them. Only incineration, prolonged autoclaving and strong chemicals like bleach or sodium hydroxide can destroy them.

Fuck I was right, stay the fuck away from prions, if you get it, you’re gone.

I’m glad I’m not the only person this happened too! 🤣🤣

Ey I was on the other thread! Told you I wouldn’t eat it for millions of dollars, I don’t wanna be patient 3 in CWD->vCJD. Prions are more fatal than rabies! At least rabies leaves an extremely slim (extremely extremely slim, like 99.9997 fatal) amount of people alive. CJD is always fatal. Always.

edit: to increase the horror, prions are able to survive outside a host for years in soil and whatnot, they are an exceptionally stable protein configuration 🙂
