Preparations for an annual Comox Valley tradition are once again well underway with students and staff of Mark R. Isfeld Secondary school busy decorating 1,000 bags with beautiful Christmas themed paintings for the Earl Naswell Christmas Dinner deliveries.

This is not just an art exercise for the students. One of the school’s staff members has been a long-time volunteer and has prepared a presentation that outlines the history of the event that Naswell started in 1982. It is a time for them to discuss the need for such a community wide Christmas dinner, the need for dedicated volunteers and the generosity of local businesses and individuals who support the event. Giving back and having gratitude is shown as an important part of being a member of the community.

Members of the Earl Naswell Community Christmas Society are hard at work organizing, gathering and planning for the amazing event that prepares the decorated packages with turkey and ham dinners, desserts and a selection of Christmas goodies.

The Society has partnered with St. George’s United Church who have graciously opened their doors to serve a sit-down dinner for those wishing to come together and share the fellowship of Christmas with others. Hot turkey and ham dinners with all the trimmings and desserts will be served from 2 to 4 p.m. on Christmas Day. This is a free dinner, with no registration required.

Anyone across the Comox Valley wishing to receive a dinner delivery is welcome to contact the Salvation Army to be added to our list. Please call them at 250-338-5133. Dinners will be delivered from noon until 2 p.m. on Dec 25.

Organizers are still accepting donations from local businesses and individuals who wish to support the event. E-transfers may be sent directly to, or you may contact the Society at earlnaswellchristmas@gmail.com to see how you can contribute. Now a CRA Registered Charity, the Society will provide receipts for your donations. More information can be found on the Society website: www.earlnaswellchristmas.ca

A huge thank you goes out to all the many Chefs, society directors, volunteers, sponsors and everyone else that plays a role in this tremendous endeavour. Merry Christmas to one and all.
