Planning and preparing a Christmas feast can be more stressful than joyful, so here are some alternatives to consider that can make serving a holiday meal more enjoyable at Christmastime.
Giant Eagle offers holiday dinner meals that serve up to six people. Choose from spiral-sliced ham, whole turkey or turkey breast, prime rib or lamb shank dinner bundles with side dishes provided. Meats and side dishes can also be ordered à la carte, and extra sides and desserts can be added to the order. Meals will be prepared and served cold, with reheat instructions. Orders must be placed by Dec. 16 at the Giant Eagle website or by contacting the Somerset store, 1606 N. Center Ave., 814-443-4300. Orders must be picked up in store from Dec. 21-24 or Dec. 27-31.
Corner Coffee Shoppe, 810 Scalp Ave. in Johnstown is taking orders for individual Christmas dinners, prepared and ready to reheat. Dinners include sliced turkey breast or glazed ham, stuffing ball, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, dinner roll and butter. No substitutions allowed. A slice of pie can be added at an extra cost. To order, call 814-266-6050; meals must be picked up by 4 p.m. on Dec. 24.
Perkins restaurant offers a holiday turkey dinner family meal for four people. Meal includes turkey, sage stuffing, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, choice of two sides and four biscuits. Dessert for four or a whole pie can be ordered separately. Other prepared family meals are available, including a breakfast meal. A holiday turkey meal for one is also available. Orders must be placed 48 hours in advance through the Perkins website or by calling a local restaurant. The closest Perkins is at 505 Galleria Dr. in Johnstown, 814-262-0266.
Bob Evans restaurants offer several Farmhouse Feast meals (packed cold and ready to reheat) and a Holiday Hot Family Meal (packed hot and ready to eat) to serve 6-8 people. Meals include turkey and/or ham, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, rolls and a pie. A single-plate premium celebration platter is also available, served hot. Orders can be placed online through the Bob Evans website or at a local restaurant. The closest Bob Evans restaurant is at 1203 National Highway in LaVale, Maryland, 301-729-0160.
Cracker Barrel restaurants offer several holiday heat-and-serve dinners for the holidays, to serve 4-6 or 8-10 people. Order a sugar-cured ham or prime rib dinner, or choose a heat-and-serve side dish bundle to go with your own main dish. Meals and side dishes are served cold and include reheat instructions. Pies and breakfast items are also available to order for pickup. Orders must be placed 24 hours in advance.
