Would like to use to sterilize mason jars. This was purchased used at a garage sale several years ago, never used, no seal or instructions. Has been stored is a warehouse.
Is it worth to clean and get a new seal vs purchasing a new one for $165 from amazon?
I've never canned or used a pressure cooker/canner. The brand on the top is "National" Eau Claire, Wis.

Looks like an All American to me. Are you looking to just sterilize jars for something other than canning? Like mushroom inoculation or something?
You don’t need a pressure canner to sterilize jars. You would just boil them in any pot for 10 min
National and All American canners are nearly identical and many all American parts will fit National canners. These canners use a metal to metal seal so there is no gasket. If you can boil water in it then you can sterilize jars in it.
Thank you everyone. Have decided to purchase new bc I have so little confidence and could use step by step instructions.
Ypu can take this to your nearest university farm co-op and they will pressure test it for you. We have an Ohio state extension office near us that does testing. The pressure guage is available on Amazon and can be replaced easily. Ours came from my girlfriend’s grandmother and is easily older than I am. We used it to can turkey stock juat this week.
