I need dust. I need wine to taste like the smell of the pages of a 1980s paperback version of Les Misérables that was in someone's basement. I need the mood that it gives to feel like just stepping into an ancient library, where the doors haven't been opened in generations. I am on a quest to find the dustiest wine. This one for instance has a 7/10 dust level, but has a bit too much of a cherry taste. I need 100% ancient tome taste.

I can’t help you, but do know that I root for you! May your wine be as dusty as the Bible in hotel rooms – good hunt.
Try Lopez vina tondonia
It sounds like you want a corked wine that smells like a mildewy basement.
Good luck on your mission!
Try Chateauneuf de pape. I too am a fan of dirt wines and this is the spot on the shelf I go first.
If you don’t want to limit yourself to France I’d say you might get your fix in Italy (Nebbiolo and Sangiovese). I don’t have specific reccs though
This is a VERY specific taste/texture request, and **not** the same as
* dirt (loamy, earthy, geosmin)
* sous bois (forest floor)
* natty funk “heady aroma of esters, weird fermentation products”
* “corked” (TCA nastiness).
Some of this is textural, “dusty fine tannins, astringent but not too bitter” and some of it is an ineffable flavor and aroma.
Lots of old vine zins and cabs that arent too fruit fwd have this, as do old bordeaux. The key here is that the primary fruit flavor is not too strong so that the dust shines through.
I reccommend posting this question on
