Made an effort over the past couple months to hit up some of our favorite gastropubs after work on Friday's to get the weekend started off right. I was put on to most of these places by this sub a couple years back when I made a thread asking for recommendations on good gastropubs and they've become among of my favorite spots in the city for quality, consistency and great service at relatively affordable prices. Sharing this for appreciation of all these places are still hitting in 2025
Steak & Chips from The Oxley. Always great good food here. Got the steak med-rare and it was perfect. Typically prefer thinner crispy fries but they won me over on the thick cut here. Not sure what's in that butter but it was popping with flavor. Priciest meal out of the lot here at $38 but it was well worth it as one of the best meals I've had this year
Chicken pot pie from Queen & Beaver. This was a special and so so good filled with tender chicken breast and mushroom. Pies typically aren't my favorite thing but they do them so well here, their regular menu steak and mushroom and seafood chowder pies are also outstanding. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu here
Fried chicken from Abbot Pub. This place has quickly become one of my favorite spots uptown. This was a special but pretty much everything on the menu here is a hit. I've posted several other dishes from here if you type them into the search. Can get very busy with a wait on Friday's at peak dinner time but it's always worth the wait and we always have great meals here
Bison burger from C'est What. Hands down one of my favorite burgers in the GTA. It's a bit more lean than a typical burger but so tasty and grilled to perfection everytime. Subbed for a kale ceaser this time since I already had fries earlier that day and it was surprisingly really good
Fancy Bangers & Mash from House On Parliament. This is probably the most popular and posted dish from here so I don't have much to say other than reaffirming that these are still probably the best bangers in the city and this place is beloved on here for good reason
