I keep seeing people recommend crappy short chimneys that require you to dump the lit coals out. If you do lump charcoal, or briquettes, and have an ounce of handyman in you, I strongly recommend making one for yourself. 2ft x 8inch stovepipe, 1.5 – 2 inch holes with a metal drill, install a hardwood handle, 4 sheets of newspaper, pour charcoal on top, light it, wait 8-10 minutes, pull it straight up, voila, coals. I grabbed a bunch of pic’s from the past few years. Oh, and I don’t store it out of the elements, it lasts 2-3 years before rusting away.

Chimney is an accurate description of this thing.

Id say that you got your money’s worth.

Glad it’s working for you. I gave up the chimney years ago and now just make a pile.

Nice! I made one out of a helium tank (for filling balloons)

  6. I’m with ya dude. Lived off grid for years, and old stove pipe was just about everywhere.

That said, my favorite redneck ghetto chimney was from a gallon can of kidney beans that somebody brought to our wedding. (Was on our property before the cabin was finished, so it was a five day BBQ campout, people brought all kinds of shit.)

Some like em long, I liked it thick. LOL. Bonus mountain Mac gyver points, lose the handle and use long handle lineman pliers for the real backwoods flavor.

FYI to those curious….do not use Galvanized sheet metal.

Why do you not patent this and market , I have never thought of this.

I like this idea. Last summer a tiny little coal fell right into my shoe and burned the shit out of my foot. Now I’m always so cautious when I dump the chimney.
