    I’m . . . probably going to catch some flack for this comment given current events, but having watched that series in its entirety, I never got the logic for Jess’s dad’s sandwich building methodology. Is the hope that the tomato is effectively wrapped in the lettuce thus minimizing the lower bread from getting soggy? Or is it that he favors the taste of the tomato so it’s better to have it lower in the stack so it’s not eclipsed by the taste of the meat?

    Its best to put the tomato against the bread. Pat it dry first and season with salt and pepper. This is because tomato slices are slidey, and putting them towards the middle makes the whole sandwich tend to slide apart.
