And it is. More fruit forward than Cdp. Dark fruit. Black berries and dark plums. Bit of cedar no smoke. Bit of pepper. 2022 is a 👍

Is there a better one? Yes. But when you talk about consistency and availability, it’s hard to beat E. Guigal.
I would throw Louis Jadot Beaujolais into the ring, although I’m not the biggest fan of the current release. Otherwise, they’ve been pretty consistent over the years as well and very affordable/available.

Just in the region Jamet CdR, Santa Duc CdR, Mayard CdR, I could go all day, Guigal is cheap and available everywhere, that doesn’t mean it’s good or even remotely close to the quality average in the region.
Edit: getting downvoted for calling a spade a spade is hilarious.

Ravines dry Riesling
Etbienallors
Kermit Lynch CdR, which I can buy at my local Wine shop for $16 – great starter/ house wine

Great Rhône winemakers make great entry level wines. A great entry level wine is the proof of the work of an Artist. By tasting the entry level wine you know the quality of the winemaker. Next to the Guigal every Cru Village has his stars in the Rhône Valley.

Yer man Faustino knocks out some pretty decent Rioja I find

I actually gotta say that I don’t love Guigal’s CdR. _However_, earlier this year, a friend of mine treated us to a 1993 bottle of this and it was actually pretty damn good! Hard to believe gay sub-$20 supermarket bottle could age that well for over 30 years but it did! Here are my notes for those curious: > Still alive! And well so. > Nose of prunes, balsamic vinegar, arugula, incense. Old leather. > Medium- body with medium tannin and medium+ acidity. Sour cherry, blackberry, prunes and dry wood.
Otherwise, I have to agree with those saying that Kermit Lynch’s CdR is better and that in general there are many entry level wines that are better. Perhaps, most of them are not as widely available

I think for the price you pay for it, it’s a pretty good wine!

For a smidge more. I would probably lean towards Château Mont-Redon Lirac. It is also, readily available where I live, but that might not be the case everywhere. Although Guigal offers so much variety that people who tend to buy the “same” could use it as a gateway wine
