I bought 25kg (55lbs) of kangaroo steak. It is one solid frozen block.
I want to thaw and use a couple of kilos at a time and keep the rest frozen.
Any ideas on the best way to do that?

Would a heated knife cut through it?

Or would a saw be better?

When I was a teenager my parents used to buy a whole butchered pig but some parts were massive too much for one person to eat. You got a hacksaw? I cleaned a saw found a fresh blade and cleaned that too and sawed the frozen meat into usable portions I would have to do this on a regular bases.

  3. Drag it behind the ute for a few paddocks, mate.

See and apron up to make a pocket. Similar to a pouch that you can wear over your abdomen and place the meat cicle in the pouch and just hop around your day as usual until it’s thawed

That’s a pretty big box, it’s not going to fit in the fridge.

Right now, where I live, I could leave it in the garage and it would thaw safely.

If that’s not the case for you, reach out to local restaurants to see if any of them will let you thaw it in their walk-in cooler (it’ll take about a week), then divide it into sensible portions and refreeze.

That’ll take a while. You better hop to it.

  7. Take it to a butcher. They will cut it up for you to specification and charge a fee. Best whilst it’s still frozen.
