A 48-year-old man has been arrested in Nea Filadelfia, central Athens, for stealing containers of olive oil and honey intended for household use from the storage rooms of apartment buildings.
He, along with an accomplice, is accused of forming a criminal group and committing aggravated thefts repeatedly.
The man was caught in the act after police received a report of a theft in an underground storage room of an apartment building in the Nea Filadelfia area.
Officers immediately responded to the scene, where they found the suspect inside the building holding two containers of olive oil.
During the investigation, police determined that the suspect had stolen a total of six containers of olive oil from the storage room of a building resident.
Further investigation revealed that the accused, together with his accomplice, would break into underground storage rooms of apartment buildings and steal containers of olive oil and honey as well as other items such as tools, footwear, and suitcases.
The stolen quantities are estimated to total 817 liters of olive oil and 35 kilograms of honey.
