I got this for Christmas. I am pregnant. Can I leave it in the fridge until Christmas or am I forced to freeze and thaw?

I got mine at Publix yesterday for 9.99 per

Sell by date on this is 12/20.
Would it still be okay to cook 5 days after that date?

  3. potatochobit

wow this is new to me. I didnt know they cost that much.

  4. Beans and grains for us. We can afford meat, but we went on strike.

lol. Fucking $200 for an 8# rib roast 🤯

Kroger has 6.99/lb full pack bone in ribeye right now but just this week. I get a couple each year and they last me most of the year

  7. InternationalIdea606

Last month that was $16.99 per pound.

Take it back. Blade tenderized is the worst thing to do for a meat that needs to be cooked to a rare/medium rare
    Edit: it’s also stupidly overpriced

  9. Odd_Awareness1444

Absolutely no way I would pay that price. They can keep it.

I love how the entire comment section here is mostly people trying to shame the OP or outright insult her. Damn Redditors are so f..king toxic. She asked a simple question people.
OP…. Don’t freeze it. Just keep it in the coldest section of your refrigerator and ENJOY your prime rib when you cook it. Happy Holidays 🤩

Choice or prime or no grade…it all ends up in the toilet at some point. Merry Christmas.

  12. MomoDodoBird

i found it cute when people do this for special occasions i approve

I love Costco for most times of the years. For Thanksgiving and Xmas we go to local grocery stores. They always have great specials on turkey, beef, ham,…

This is 9.99/lb at publix right now, it is choice and not prime. As a disgruntled former employee I’ll be buying about 5 more on top of the 2 i got today. Also is it terrible to freeze it cause I already did

  15. Lazy_Leather_561

I would freeze and thaw, too long until Christmas.

  16. Opposing_Thumb_Dude

Congratulations on being pregnant!!! Next year you’ll be buying gifts – so cool.

The roast will be fine. Don’t freeze it. Keep it cold. Beef taste beefier when it ages a bit.

    Merry Christmas!

I was debating making beef Wellingtons this year…but at that rate the fam is going to be getting tuna casserole 🤣

Idk, i’m in Texas, can get subsidized butchered whole cows from Texas A&M for $350. For their Ag students to learn butchery on. Some people buy a full size deep freezer, throw some ice or dry ice in it and pick it, then unload at home and plug into garage receptacle.

Meijer has CAB Standing Rib roast for $11.99 and $2 off for Mperks members (free to join).

if u have a food saver you can vacuum seal it it will last longer. this ie called wet brine and is how costco (and every other store) gets it (cryovac)

  21. Accord-ing_25_Tim

You’re fine just leaving it in the fridge. A week is no big deal. Make a great Christmas meal and don’t think twice about it!

  22. Sufficient-Cancel217

Return the roast to Costco. Tell them it smells bad.
Buy a new roast on 12/23/25.

  23. Useful_Anteater_7358

Omg. I now the prices were high but damned

  24. bmmeup100

We are so winning! I’m glad there isn’t any inflation.

  25. Tasty_Bullfroglegs

Prime meat, it’s fine in the fridge. Don’t even worry about it and don’t listen to all the guys buying choice on sale in the comments.

  26. Educational_Love_118

Gd. Take it out of the plastic wrap and dry age that sucker for a week. Let the air get to it in your fridge, on a steel or ceramic rack. It’ll be twice as good, cook quicker and be more tender. Dates are for fools.
    Seriously. Web search dry aging

  27. blanketyx3

“Sell by” is not a “best by” date. A whole roast will keep for a loooong time. The concern for a pregnant person eating a rib roast comes more from undercooked (read: med. Rare and delicious) meat. Not sure what to tell you there. Consult with your doctor.

People need to look at buying half a cow, have local butcher it, and freezing it if youre paying that much

  29. Professor-chaos626

Food Lion has them on sale for 7.99 a pound right now

  30. Highestpope

Publix goes on sale for $9.99 a pound. Dunno if you have them in Seattle but I got two for the price of yours, chased the deal, in SC

  31. Embarrassed_Soup1371

    A true prime
    Prime rib

Yes it has to be prime to be a prime rib

  32. Sleghammer8

Buy the whole ¼ cow or whatever meat dad calls it and see what all you can cut off that. It’s less than what this is and 4 times the meat

  33. sasquatch16258

I grew up in a Mexican community…. That showed me how overpriced Costco is with beef. Try a local carniceria…

We can all thank the tariffs and administration for the damage they’ve done. But hey, at least billionaires get more money!
