As the title states. I packaged this thing and dropped it in the freezer back in August 2024. I was thinking about eating it today. Also, it was vacuum sealed. It has a little bit of ice crust on the inside.

It has some freezer burn, so when thawed fully it won’t look right, like dried out. Won’t taste like fresh unfrozen meat but it won’t kill you. If it bothers you, just cut those parts out. Winter bbq!! 😋

A little bit freezer burned, but edible.

My guess is it’s fine. Unless you plan on serving it as a special dinner or at a restaurant or something…

It’ll be below average, but won’t kill you (probably)

I tend to agree with the “stew it” comment personally

I eat older stuff than that, if it doesn’t taste good toss it

I found a few steaks from four years ago and I couldn’t tell a difference from this year’s meat.

  6. Usually the grass fed/grass finished steaks taste disgusting if they’re a year or 2 old. Grain fed steaks always taste good, at least in my experience

  7. Vacuum sealed is the way to go. There should be no issues with this.

If you’re skeptical, send it to me and I’ll dispose of it.

Can always chop it up small and make some dank tacos

As long as your freezer hasn’t thawed, it’ll be fine. It might not be as quality as when you first purchased it but, fine nonetheless. I’ve eaten older steaks than that.

I mean it’s always good for Chinese food or tacos

Trim the freezer burned bits and cook same day it thaws.  Good to go.

If you vacuum pack stuff, it won’t freezer burn.

Looks like it may have suffered some freezer burn, quality will be diminished but otherwise it’s fine to eat and it should still taste good enough.

Hey, good news: I found a $20 in a jacket yesterday and a ribeye in the freezer. Looks like everything’s coming up Meathouse.

Grind it up and make it into smash burger

Sous vide for two hours at 130, and a hot pan for a few seconds. It’ll be perfection!

  16. I cooked a frozen vac sealed 6 ibs picanha from early 2023 tasted great.

If it’s frozen, you’re fine. Don’t expect any great flavor. I suggest this for the stew/chili you should make with it.

  18. Historical_Yak7706

I would thaw and cook it first, but it should be fine…
so long as it was packaged properly, there was no long term loss of power, the cow was not diseased, the steak infected with bacteria prior to being packaged, the packaging has not been damaged in the last year, and you feel like having a steak…

A week ago I had 2 ribeyes in my deep freezer that were dated may 2024 thawed, cooked them and they were bomb. Still tasted great. Weren’t vacuumed sealed either

Not seeing freezer burn on it so it should be ok

  21. kingtacticool

I’ve seen Steve1989 eat 110 year old room temperature beef.

    Im sure you’ll be fine

I made chili with 3 2 year old ribeyes I found in my freezer. Best chili I ever made

  23. chimpyjnuts

I’ve done at least 3yrs. Even if there’s a touch of freezer burn that’s mostly on the outside where it will be seared.
