1st Question: Does Kamado Joe usually have beginning of the year, Memorial Day, or 4th sales on grills. Trying to decide if I should go ahead and hey one now or later to save some coin.

2nd Question: Ive heard a few mentions of the food tasting like its oven prepared. Youball ever have any issues with that? I know it doesnt provide the same level of flavor as an offset but I dont need another oven.

There are usually some sales and promotions around Memorial Day and 4th of July, but they usually involve bundles, so you sometimes spend more to get more. Often times, you can find sales at individual dealers and retailers, especially if they’re trying to move product at the end of the year or quarters. As for the 2nd question, I’ve never had any meal taste like it is oven made. Perhaps the confusion comes from the fact that kamados act like a convection oven for how the heat rolls. But if you’re cooking with lump charcoal, it should never taste like it’s coming out of the oven.

Home Depot is clearing their inventory. Check local stores!

    1) There are occasional sales. Places that clearance them out in store usually don’t post it online, you have to check in store.

    2) No way. I can’t imagine how that comparison is even possible. You’re burning wood for heat, not using a heating element.

  4. I have a BJ3 and offset, use both all the time. The offset is slightly better, but no one I cook for can tell the difference. “Not smokey” is certainly not true at all.

  5. 2nd question: no, food tastes really good and is my primary smoking machine! It’s awesome!

    1. Prime day has amazing deals. I got my Big Joe 3 with a base,  rotisserie, bag of charcoal, cover, and a soap stone (skip that, theu are fragile af) for $2,100 and because I opened a prime card I got an additional $200 + 5% off.

Came out to $1,810 or something like that.

    2. Adding wood chunks goes along way. I usually soak a couple small pieces and throw them in and ot makes a huge difference. I also pickup a ton of charcoal flavor. Can’t saybit ever taste like not came from an oven.

    2) are you sure you’re talking about kamado and not a Weber gas grill? Smoke flavour is the last thing you would be concerned with kamado

Not trying to be a jerk. Take this with a grain of salt. Comparing an oven cooked meal to protein smoked on a Kamado is like saying Taco Bell bean burritos taste the same as authentic bean burritos. You have control of the fire, smoke, temperature, seasoning. I guess I care to disagree with you kindly. Bob

2nd question about food tasting like it’s oven prepared. Not your experience, I get it, but those people who feel that way, might use their tool differently.

You won’t find hot deals like you would 2 or 3 years ago. I think there was a surplus dur to covid supply chain finally catching up.

If you can find a big joe iii for 2700, thats about as good as it gets anymore. A good online vendor is atlanta grill company.

Make sure you really need the big joe is the 1st hill to climb. I’ve wanted one for a few years now and I can’t make a use case argument. I’ve managed to smoke everything I ever needed to smoke on a classic. Just the other day, a 21 pound brisket tried down to 18, fit right in.

So, unless you’re into whole hog you might be better fixed for a classic iii and save 1k.

I went from an offset to the KJ, I didn’t taste any drop off in flavor or smokiness. The KJ is just so much easier to control temperatures and is great for long cooks like a brisket.

Ocean of difference between oven cooking and smoking in a joe.
