ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Serving men, women, and children experiencing homelessness or poverty is the goal of Open Door Mission in Rochester. On Christmas Day, that took the form of a free food giveaway, with dozens of people seen leaving the mission with meals in hand during the half-hour dinner.

Open Door Mission is a Christian organization dedicated to meeting the physical and spiritual needs of impoverished and homeless individuals. The event was organized to provide food and friendship during the holiday season.

In addition to the event in Rochester, meal giveaways took place across the Rochester area Finger Lakes region. Among others: The Asbury Dining and Caring Center hosted a breakfast, while the Geneva Community Lunch Program offered free nutritious meals around lunchtime. St. Peter’s Kitchen in Rochester also held a free lunch from noon to 1 p.m.
