Police in suburban Aurora are searching for the shooter who opened fire at a party on Christmas Day, leaving three people wounded.
At approximately 8:08 p.m. on Thursday, officers with the Aurora Police Department responded to a report of a shooting along Sunset Avenue near Oak Avenue, police said in a news release. When officers arrived, they found three women who had been shot.
The victims – who are 34, 36 and 55 years old, were taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police stated.
As families along the street hosted Christmas dinner, the sounds of gunfire erupted down the block.
“I was sitting in my chair, reading, and I heard five pops, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop,” one neighbor recalled.
According to officials, Aurora police detectives responded to the shooting and were investigating the circumstances surrounding what occurred. Unspecified forensic evidence was collected at the scene by evidence technicians, police stated.
According to law enforcement, the gunfire originated outside the home.
“It’s Christmas Day, the evening of Christmas Day, so they all had all their family there, so kids, babies,” one neighbor said.
“It was very frightening when one boy said, ‘They shot my mom,’ and that was scary,” another neighbor stated.
The investigation remained underway as of Friday evening. While no arrests had been made, police were in the process of reviewing surveillance video to identify any potential suspects.
