I heard it was illegal to serve food on wooden objects due to the wood basically holding onto bacteria, is that true? (Pizza was delicious btw, at world of beer)

  1. The pizza looks identical to the little pizzas you get at Tim Hortons in Canada.

At least the wood can help soak up all of that grease I guess…

  3. I might make an exception here. I chop my pizzas on a cutting board and just leave it there to be taken from.

  4. I might find a wooden chopping board preferable in this scenario because god almighty I have never seen such a greasy ass pizza.

I’m a chef, we use wood all the time as its naturally antibacterial, those colour coded plastic boards are way worse.

Unsure about it being illegal, but it is less sanitary than a normal plate. Health concerns aside, I think this is close enough to a plate to be acceptable. The pizza does look amazing.

People who complain about wooden serving platters being unsanitary should just never leave the house of they’re that phobic. Surely people have them in their homes, and enjoy going to family style restaurants?

What should be illegal is the amount of grease dripping off that thing. They should have hung it up on a little clothesline like all those other posts.

The pizza was a hot honey pepperoni pizza btw

I’m pretty sure that’s melamine/plastic with a wood pattern printed on it.

  11. That’s a tray… I don’t think there’s any law that prohibites wooden trays, but plates are another matter entirerly. And that’s a plastic one to serve plates on it, só that is basically a tray that’s bad to serve food on but easier to clean

I mean it’s a cutting board idk if it counts as a “wooden object” in the sense that it is designed to hold food and wasn’t, like, foraged or a piece of furniture or something like that

  13. I read a study on wood vs plastic cutting boards and wood is naturally antimicrobial.

That said I hate wood boards for serving. For cutting they are far superior. But those pepperonis look good as fuck, love them crispy. So I’m conflicted. Just box it up for me and ill eat it out of the box.

It’s how I do it at home. But at a restaurant maybe not. Wood is porous and holds bacteria and shit. So I would be way less likely to trust it.

  15. This sub is woefully unaware of the capillary effect of wood.

Well kept wood that is oiled is best for any food prep surface.

Had a post like this years ago back in 2018 but they removed it. Guess either the sub’s standards have changed or the mods have gotten lazy. Maybe it is for the better, but I’m still kind of salty about that.

  17. beardingmesoftly

Quite the opposite, wood is an inhospitable environment for bacteria

If hot honey on pizza is a crime then lock me up ’cause I’m guilty. I’m eating some right now

You take the pizza off the board and put it on your plate

Heavy sigh…wait do I say heavy sigh, or.. do I do a heavy sigh?…

    Anyways…..heavy sigh….contemplation….Consumption……

    Decision.

If they’re serving the whole pizza I don’t see a problem

  22. qawsedrf12

No prob as long as you use those 2 plates back there

  23. 30$ pizza at best depending where you’re at…

  24. icyhotonmynuts

Depends on the wood. In some cases it can dry out and eliminate bacteria more quickly than plastic boards

  25. Classic-Exchange-511

I’m okay with these if I can easily pick it up. Sometimes they are a serious hassle
