The setup I got myself for Christmas as a beginner
This is the setup I got myself as a Christmas present. Still a beginner, but very curious and motivated to learn.
Happy to hear any tips, feedback or suggestions from more experienced people!

A heck of a setup, man! Congrats! I still have the same machine and use it pretty much everyday.

Have the same machine but not the accessories. What are they?

Welcome aboard! Pretty much the exact same we have, but we ended up getting an Encore ESP automatic grinder instead to save time. The Dedica is really a powerhouse for its price.
My tips are:
1. Bottomless portafilter, IMS basket, WDT, good quality tamper. With a good grinder & beans, this will get you 80% of the way to a machine 2-3x as expensive as the Dedica. Portafilter funnel too if you want to reduce the mess 🙂 Looks like you’re already mostly there! 2. Run a blank shot through the machine every time you turn it on, before you brew. It’ll heat up the brew group, which will make your shot taste smoother/less acidic. More expensive machines typically have a preheating function, the Dedica doesn’t, but doing this will accomplish the same result. 3. You can pull some pretty nice lungos I’ve found. I’m achieving ~17g in, ~60g out in 30-35s with the Colombian medium roast Arabicas we have in the house right now.

Take your time learning how variables affect outcome and you’ll be golden!

Got (almost) the same setup earlier this month! Getting really good shots!
Paired the dedica with a Kingrinder K2 and an IMS basket.
Have fun!

It will be a short time before you give up on the hand grinder. Ask me how I know lol.

I had almost the same for six years (different grinder). Served me well, but had some limitations. Needed to put lot of coffee to get perfect shot. It was fine for me, but too strong for some people. After six years extraction degrade (guess pump is worn out) and it went to deserved retirement. After Dedica went for automatic (Eletta Explore). Really surprised how good it is. Only drawback – my skills are no longer required.

Great beginner set. I’d have gone kingrinder k6 but I think yours will work fine.
Patience and watch a bunch of YouTube vids. This machine is more than capable. But stick with darker roasts. Find a good roaster and take time dialling in one bean before moving to a new one.

That’s a smart starter setup.

Nice rig, mate.

Hi! Great setup! Do you have a link for the portafilter?

Looks like a really solid and cost effective starting point, well done. You might want to add a scale. You can get a good mini scale with a timer for $40 from espresso outlet.

Perfect congrats!

That’s a really nice Christmas gift to yourself. Honestly, great choices for a beginner. You’ve got all the right pieces to learn properly without going overboard. This is a great starter setup and you can make genuinely good coffee with it.
