WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Nothing says Christmas like a warm plate of Christmas ham and cookies.
For some, a hot Christmas meal wasn’t available or it reminded them of loneliness. The Wausau Eagles Club and Emmerich Properties Charitable Trust sponsored their fourth drive-up Christmas meal distribution.
Each meal included ham, stuffing, vegetables, buns, Christmas cookies, and more.
Volunteers prepared 1,000 meals, hoping to give out at least 800 from 10-3 on Christmas day. By 11:30 a.m., all the meals were gone.
“We’ve never [had] over 800 at Christmas until today,” Chairperson Lynn Loss said. “I now probably am going to double it. It’s worth it in the end [for] not only our people that are working, but the people that drive-up, that they’re included.”
40 volunteers came to help make meals, package them, and run them out to cars.
Organizers hoped their joy and a good meal brought some Christmas cheer to those that needed it the most.
