Another reader asks:

“What happened here? Why would they close a few days before New Year’s Eve? Did they go out of business or is it really renovation?”

STAY TUNED.

June 24th, 2024: “Bar Japonais Now Open On 14th Street”

“Bar Japonais is now open in Logan Circle located at 1520 14th Street NW. The team behind Bar Chinois, Dean Mosones, Mark Minicucci, Margaux Donati and Jake Simpson, launched the new izakaya restaurant to provide a sophisticated atmosphere blending Japanese fare and French cocktails.

Experience the culinary delights of Bar Japonais, where guests can enjoy dinner and drinks Tuesday through Sunday from 5PM-12AM, with the kitchen closing at 11PM. The menu boasts a fusion of inventive and traditional Japanese cuisine, featuring an array of skewers, appetizers, salads, sashimi, hand rolls, mains, and desserts. Indulge in the signature Hambagu, a tantalizing blend of beef and pork haché, served with tobanjan BBQ sauce and furikake Julienne potatoes. Or savor the crispy perfection of the Katsu Kare, showcasing panko-crusted chicken paired with fragrant white rice and savory curry.

Mosones is thrilled to be opening another restaurant stating, “Our Bar Japonais team is ecstatic to join the vibrant and lively Logan Circle community. Our vision is to blend two rich and timeless traditions where we will feature Japanese cuisine, French wine, and an inventive and eclectic cocktail and sake program, embodying the spirit of both cultures.

Minicucci added, “As for the feel and aesthetic, our goal is to replicate what we achieved at Bar Chinois: exceptional hospitality, a vibrant social bar scene, and a dining experience that is both comfortable and energetic.”

Bar Japonais has also carefully curated a drink list with unique cocktails as well as an extensive wine and sake selection. A must try cocktail is Stuck On Oki containing planteray cut + dry coconut, okinawa rum, rancio sec and roasted pineapple sesame. Another favorite is Ariinishi served with haku, shochu, matcha oat milk, banana, vanilla and white chocolate.

After dinner enjoy a variety of dessert options such as the Ginger Créme Brulée served with mixed berries or the Mousse Au Chocolat served with miso sake caramel, raspberries and matcha whipped cream. Click HERE to view the full dinner menu.”
