  1. Congrats on the recognition u/TriedForMitchcraft. And thanks to everyone for building out the best Chicago subreddit and community over the past four years!

It’s not an obsession, I can stop whenever I want!

    But seriously thanks Mitch

Mitch for prez. Last year the food meetups were some of the highlights. Also s/out to our best ramen lord for hosting us as well.

That’s so cool! This sub is awesome, thanks for tending to it and growing the community!

  5. seansy5000

It’s where I go to get actual reviews and opinions. Sure there are still shills, but also a ton of genuine commentary. Thanks to all the contributors!

Thank you! I got on here about 2 1/2 years ago before moving back to the city. This is my number one source to scope a spot.

Congrats everyone! It was a good article. Glad to see the recognition. I’m a just lurker and this subreddit has always been helpful to me.

  8. wine-n-dive

Very fun read. I’ve really enjoyed making friends in this community. Thanks team!

Nice. So many subreddits often end up having stupid meta issues arise due to over/under-moderation and (as far as I can recall) this sub hasn’t had any of that – which is a pretty good indicator that it’s well run.

Annoying article title though. “Unpaid reddit moderator” is such a dumb trope. Some people are just passionate about things and get enjoyment by contributing/creating community. I’m not sure why it has to be defined by whether you’re paid or not

Congrats! My favorite source of recommendations.

  11. Motor_Telephone8595

Thanks for this subreddit where I can connect to our DV fans and all the recommendations from fellow Chicagoans. 🍩

  12. InflateMyProstate

Sincerely appreciate this subreddit and all the folks who put in work to make it an engaging community. Thank you!

  13. And not one mention of RHR. I’m disappointed. 😉

  14. Center_2001

Had no idea. Thanks Mitch for all you do to make this a welcoming and informative place!

  15. This is really awesome to see this page get recognized! Outstanding work with this group, mods and especially the Mitch.

  16. Glittering-You-4297

Thank you for cultivating such a great community, Mitch! We appreciate all the work and thought you put behind this sub.

There is a great docuseries on AppleTV called Knife’s Edge about the pursuit of Michelin Stars and a few amazing Chicago restaurants were featured. One of the guests is asked by the chef how he’d heard of the place…. Reddit! The impact is real. Mind you, I’m in NC lol, obsessed with this sub

  18. Let_us_proceed

Nice! And Harraldsson Karl Jacob might be the greatest name ever.

  19. TriedForMitchcraft

Hey everyone, thanks for all the kind words! Happy to do it for such a great community!

  20. optiplex9000

I’m not a member of the dining club, but have been to the Obelix and Akahoshi events. Both were fantastic

Thanks for making such a great community u/TriedForMitchcraft! (And the other mods, and the lurking admins too)

  21. iced_gold

With this mainstream coverage, I’m curious what the influx of new users will be.

Preparing for the “which Small Cheval is the best” and “how does anyone get a reservation at Bavettes” posts

  22. Kumbackkid

This sub is my number one resource when looking for a new place or eat in the city

  23. Such a fun read. Also im still kicking myself for not submitting the form for last year’s year end gatherings :’)

  24. darkchocolateonly

I got in once but I couldn’t make the membership rules work for the time period. I hope to join again!

  25. From someone who only lurks, thank you. Congrats!

  26. Da_Stallion-JCI_7

The dining club is awesome and I highly recommend joining if given the opportunity.

I left it due to ongoing health issues and thought it’d be months before I could go to any events.

It felt like I was just taking up space, so I figured I’d leave to open up a spot. But I really enjoyed the events I attended. Great community.

TIL it existed 🤯 Great article about a top tier sub! I freakin love this town. Best people

  28. Creative-Grab-3955

You mean to tell me I read that whole article and not once did it touch on the dip in quality at Small Cheval?
