Served for free as an appetizer at an Italian restaurant. Obviously some sort of tomato but curious what else they put in it.

It might be peperonata (tomato, onion and bell pepper) or it might be an Italian American restaurant where they’re a tad confused and they bring marinara sauce with bread because they don’t know how to make bruschetta 😂

decapitated bruschetta. normally that comes on the bread and out of a woodstove oven.

Seems like pappa al pomodoro to me.

It looks like “friggione”, tomato and onion salsa, typical of Emilia Romagna. It could lead to addiction.

Did it taste like roasted red pepper? It looks like Ajvar, which is more of a Croatian/balkan dish but can be found in Friuli. It would be a little more sweet and smoky compared to a tomato dish.

It’s “Pappa al pomodoro”, a popular Tuscany soup made from bread, tomato sauce, onion, garlic, basil and evo oil. Originally it was a peasant dish, but today you could find it in all typical tuscan restaurants as a starter or also as first course
