If it’s pale, don’t be afraid to throw it back in the oven. You can rarely over-bake bread other than the outside burning
McChillbone
Broil isn’t the move there.
Looks overbaked on top and under baked on the sides. Just keep it baking at the same temp with the lid off.

Wery nice loaf, even better without sound.

Baking the bread with the lid off is the correct way to go at the same temp. When you broil it, it just burns the top. You never want to broil bread unless you’re melting cheese onto it. Then it’s ok to do so but other than that, just keep the temp the same and give it time, it will get brown. Oven should be 450F to 500F as bread likes to be cooked high and fast.

I suggest you to remove it from the parchment paper after you open the back, it will get a much better color.

I think it looks great!!!

Why did you broil it? Was it part of the recipe you followed? I’ve never seen that suggested.

Cut it warm you better finish it. I did that my first time and the remaining bread sank in o itself from the moisture and heat. I always let them sit for a few hours before cutting into them.
Looks great!

– 500F for 20 min – Remove lid – 450F for 20 min.

It looks like the parchment paper is insulating the side of the loaf.

Hi Everyone! i will cut the parchment paper smaller to prevent it from not cooking the sides. I followed a TikTok recipe for baking times but do agree that it would benefit from longer cook time to get more brown. As for the broil I thought it was done baking and wanted some more colour to it.

There’s a reason you didn’t show the bottom and I’m not trying to make you feel bad 😂
My wife is on a sourdough journey as well and like others have said, we bake it the whole time on the same temp but just take the lid off. To help with the bottom not getting rock hard and over-baked, we started putting rice at the bottom to help create a barrier. We tried putting a tray under the Dutch oven as some suggest but ended up getting the best results doing both that and the rice.
Congrats on the bread though! It looks springy and delicious!
