Nicola’s will no longer be moving to a new location downtown. According to a social media post by owner Cristian Pietoso, the beloved Italian restaurant opened in 1996 by his father, Nicola Pietoso, will remain in its original Over-the-Rhine location.

“With the thought of guests in mind as well as unexpected opportunities, we’ve decided to keep Nicola’s right where it is,” Pietoso said in the post. He went on to say the decision was made after hearing feedback from longtime customers who expressed their love for the building.

In March of last year, The Enquirer reported that Nicola’s would relocate to the old Pigall’s space at 127 W. Fourth St., Downtown, in 2026. That is no longer the plan, Pietoso said. “(We) know this update may come as a surprise, but we’re excited about what’s unfolding behind the scenes. There are good things ahead, and we can’t wait to share more when the time is right.”

When Nicola’s opened in 1996, the idea that the Over-the-Rhine area would become the eclectic dining destination it is today was nothing but a pipe dream. But despite the proliferation of newer, trendier spots in the area, it remains as popular and relevant to the Cincinnati dining scene as ever.

“We have additional announcements to come, but wanted our community to hear this decision directly from us,” Pietoso said. “Thank you for the support, understanding, and love for Nicola’s! Stay tuned for what is next!”
