Looks like refried beans with tapeworms. When asked how it was seasoned, he said salt.

Edit– hard to tell from the photo but it's literally just refried beans with noodles in it. The gesture was incredibly sweet and much appreciated….but it was respectfully set aside as he isn't particularly gifted in the kitchen. As others pointed out, this level of effort and thoughtfulness goes a long way and does much more to help someone feel better than the actual content of the soup. I look forward to continued judgments from my fellow redittors. It's truly insightful to see how much people think they know about a person from a single photo and a couple of sentences.

Also, a couple of comments are from my daughter who took my phone to make a couple of replies.

  1. Can we see what it was like before the 17 year-old threw it back up?

  2. WeaknessNo9724

Is it heated? Maybe it’ll look better once it’s heated?

  3. rebrolonik

What in the fuck are the three ingredients here?

  4. NewOpposite8008

Why’d you put him on blast though?

  5. OGablogian

Well .. When he’s eating that soup he will feel better about how he’s feeling right now

    lol
Please elaborate on wtf this is OP

There is a viral recipe for soup, you have to roast in the oven a lot of vegetables, pepper, tomatoes, pumpkin, even garlic, blend the result together and serve as a cream soup, I guess is not that good looking in the real life. Ive always preferered the minestrone type, where you can see all the ingredients separated in the broth.

Ungrateful as fuck aren’t you. Instead of shaming this guy for trying to comfort your sick child, how about you cook them some soup instead?

  9. honeyandwhiskey

That’s really cute though. A lot of men don’t try that hard. It’s not a photogenic soup, but points for trying!

  10. Hour_Perspective505

I can see that potentially being delicious if it was WARM and served better, you can’t always tell how something tastes by a photo

  11. _AmericasSweetheart_

Still that’s a kind hearted thing to do.

Bean soup? With what looks like crackers of some kind?

Bless his heart. It might not look the best, but I’m sure it tastes well enough and helped your daughter feel at least a little better. Salt helps a sore throat.

  13. Well… its the thought that counts, at least he’s trying

lol I made a soup that coagulated and looked gross before reheating but it was amazing 🥲

  15. iamchops

As a Mexican who has reheated crazy amounts of soups/caldos, it looks ugly til you heat it up and then it smells fatty and delicious, which is good for those who are sick.

  16. Bjorn_Tyrson

Doesn’t matter how it looks, what matters is how it tastes.

  17. novian14

Explain that you appreciate his gesture but you don’t think that’s good for the kid

  18. Psychological-Scar53

Mmm, peanut butter and noodle soup…

  19. MaiDuuuuude

I don’t think that’ll help your 17 yo feel better. Lol soup would be a better choice even canned soup if you got it.

  20. gogogadgetdumbass

It’s the uh… thought that counts… or something.

Honestly I was once making pasta soup and put too much pasta in the broth that it ended up looking pretty nasty like your picture. If I was you, I would still be appreciated of the fact that her boyfriend brought soup for your 17 years old though.

  22. Lylibean

Aww, he brought her a bowl of “it’s the thought that counts”. 🤣

Does he come from a poorer family? A can of refried beans with noodles sounds like a cheap way to “fancy up” a meal. I know some of the “poor people food” I grew up with would cause most people to recoil with horror, but it’s damned good tasting! And it’s come in handy lately . . .

  23. Quiveringmystic

Honestly that heated up would make me feel better if I were sick

  24. DBeumont

One: you need to heat it up. Two: clearly the container started out full due to the residue on the sides.

    I call shenanigans.

  25. OverlordMMM

Maybe you and the bf should cook something together to teach him how to make actual soup.

  26. CautiousArachnidz

At first I was like “What are you complaining about? That’s sweet! Tons of home made soups look terrible and taste amazing.”

Then I read refried beans and noodles. Gross.

  27. Professional_King790

My boy gets points for bringing soup AND he will never have to cook for you again.

  28. CaptainRatzefummel

I mean the gesture is nice and all, but I personally think if you know you’re bad at something doing that as a favor isn’t really something I’d be happy about. Not that I’d be mad or anything.

So what I mean is, I guess he isn’t aware how bad of a cook he is right?

  29. PreOpTransCentaur

Sweet as it is, it’s still stupid food. What a weird combo.

  30. SheaStadium1986

Reminds me of a less watery Campbell’s Lasagna Soup

  31. a-million-ducks

This looks like 90% of the food I make for myself

  32. Less_Tacos

A little hot sauce, meh, could be edible.
