INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Michael Miller, a representative from Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, introduced a non-alcoholic sparkling Italian wine, crafted in the Veneto region from Galera and Moscato grapes. The wine contains only 60 calories per serving and has an estimated retail price of $10 to $11.
This new sparkling wine comes from the Josh Sellers Portfolio, founded in 2007 in California’s Central Coast. The company has expanded its operations to Italy, where it operates a small winemaking facility in the Valle B’Adene region. Unlike traditional wines, this sparkling option does not undergo fermentation, resulting in a product that is alcohol-free from the start.
Miller explained the production methods: “There are different ways to make non-alcoholic wine, such as using spinning cone technology or vacuum distillation. However, this wine never goes through fermentation, so there’s never alcohol in there to begin with.”
He highlighted the wine’s flavor profile, noting that Italian wines typically exhibit higher acidity and greater minerality than wines from other regions. He stated, “You can really taste the difference between wines that are from Italy and maybe ones that aren’t… Italian wines have much higher levels of acidity, typically lower levels of alcohol, and more earthiness.”
Miller suggested that sparkling wine is versatile for various occasions, such as baby showers or work events, where people may prefer not to drink alcohol. He mentioned, “You can do designated drivers, morning cocktails like a mimosa if you want to be part of the fun and celebration, just no alcohol.”
In discussing the taste, Miller remarked, “Expect to find notes of green apples, pears, and orchard fruit. This would be perfect sitting out in the summer on the patio, drinking a glass of this.”
