🧈 Ingredients – Southern Buttermilk Biscuits
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
7 tablespoons of cold butter, cubed
¾ cup cold buttermilk
2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing after baking)

🥣 Instructions – Step by Step
Preheat oven to 425°F
Line a baking sheet or use a cast iron skillet.
Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl: flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt.
Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fingers until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
👉 Butter should stay cold—this creates flaky layers.
Add cold buttermilk, stirring just until the dough comes together.
Do not overmix.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
Gently fold the dough over itself 3–4 times to build layers.
Pat dough to about 1/2 inch thickness.
Cut biscuits using a round cutter—don’t twist the cutter.
Place biscuits close together on the pan or skillet for soft sides.
Bake 13–15 minutes, or until tall and golden brown.
Brush with melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven.
